Meridian Design Build has begun construction on an 87,777-square-foot expansion to a 215,000-square-foot ground distribution and package sorting center at 1260 Rowena Road in Grayslake that the company completed in 2011.
The expansion, Meridian’s third project for Indianapolis-based developer Scannell Properties, is being constructed on a build-to-suit basis to accommodate the needs of Scannell’s tenant, a global provider of shipping and information services.
The project will provide 81,000 square feet of additional package sorting/distribution area and 1,300 square feet of supplemental office space. In addition to the expansion of the main facility, a separate standalone building is being constructed on-site that will serve as a fleet maintenance garage.
Meridian Design Build’s project team is led by Peter Schmidt, senior vice president. Ryan
Moore, project engineer, will be assisting with the project management and Jim Cather, senior superintendent, is coordinating work at the project site. Architectural services are being provided by Precept Design LLC and civil engineering work is being completed by Spaceco Inc.
