Meridian Design Build recently completed work on a 219,858-square-foot automated package sortation and distribution center in Chicago for developer Scannell Properties.
The new build-to-suit is located on a 41.4-acre redevelopment site with more than 3,000 feet of expressway frontage on the north side of Interstate 55 at South Damen Avenue.
The completed facility has 61 loading docks, 156 interior van loading positions, 8,153 square feet of office space, 452 auto parking stalls and 301 trailer stalls.
Construction included engineered ground improvements, dynamic compaction, cement soil stabilization, and the installation of over 900 aggregate piers were completed to prepare the site for development. More than 6,800 tons of asphalt and concrete were recycled onsite and incorporated into the new construction.
Additional work included a freestanding gateway building that serves as a secure entry point into the facility. This project is registered with the USGBC and is pursuing LEED certification.
Architectural services were provided by Cornerstone Architects. Civil engineering design services were provided by Spaceco, Inc.
