Meridian Design Build was recently selected by C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. to coordinate the renovation of a 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Cicero. Improvements to the building, currently home to CRL Glass Machinery (formerly Sommer & Maca), are being made to streamline existing operations and accommodate the needs of CRL’s recently acquired U.S. Aluminum division.
Interior demolition and reconfiguration work will be completed to accommodate warehouse and manufacturing requirements for both divisions including a significant amount of electrical distribution and wiring. Existing office space will be converted into a Will Call area to allow the company to better serve the needs of its clients.
The work is being completed in a manner that will allow the Glass Machinery division to remain fully operational throughout construction. An adjacent residence will be demolished to accommodate additional parking needs associated with U.S. Aluminum’s move to the building.
This is Meridian’s third project for C.R. Laurence. Prior projects included the construction of a new 50,000-square-foot showroom/distribution facility in Elgin in 2006 and prior renovation work at the Cicero facility completed in 2009.
Joe Blanchard, project manager, is coordinating construction efforts for Meridian. Tom McNett, senior superintendent, will oversee work at the job site. Architectural services are being provided by Heitman Architects Inc. and civil engineering work is being completed by Spaceco, Inc.
