Meridian Design Build recently began work on a new 188,166 SF cold storage facility in Romeoville, IL. The build-to-suit facility, located on a 35-acre site on Airport Road just west of Southcreek Parkway, will include office space, dry storage, a refrigerated palletizing area, and a -10°F freezer sized to accommodate 21,000 pallet positions.
The 95,085 SF, 72′ clear ceiling height cold storage area is designed to accommodate an Automatic Storage & Retrieval System that will place and retrieve 21,000 pallets of frozen product utilizing a high speed network of conveyors and automated cranes. The new building will include 36 loading docks, 75 exterior trailer stalls, and 177 auto parking positions. A refrigerated elevated building link will be constructed to accommodate conveyance of product from an adjacent production facility.
WBS Equities, LLC and Abbott Land & Investment are providing development services for the project which includes construction of a centralized detention facility and the extension of Pinnacle Drive and Chicago Tube Drive to serve the recently annexed parcel. The project includes a 10.8-acre land site that is available for future development.
Meridian has retained Ware Malcomb to provide architectural and structural design services for the project. Civil engineering work is being completed by Jacob & Hefner Associates.
