RBC Gateway officially claimed its place in the downtown Minneapolis skyline Sept. 17 when local leaders gathered for a ceremony to celebrate the building’s topping out, a construction milestone that marks the moment a building reaches its full height.
The event was attended by United Properties representatives, project partners and local officials, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
“As the first such high-rise project in downtown Minneapolis in two decades, RBC Gateway stands poised to make its mark not only on the downtown skyline, but on the broader community as well,” said Rick McKelvey, senior vice president of development with United Properties, who has overseen the project since its inception.
Despite the challenges of a global pandemic, and thanks to a close partnership with McGough, the project remains on track and on schedule for completion in 2022. More than 500 people work on the project each day and the project is 70 percent complete.
“We are incredibly grateful for all of the on-site workers involved in this project,” said McKelvey. “They continued to show up every day — throughout the pandemic — to make RBC Gateway a reality.”
When completed in the second quarter of 2022, the 37-story tower will be home to RBC Wealth Management’s U.S. headquarters; Minneapolis’ first five-star hotel, Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Minneapolis; and a public plaza and street-level dining. It was announced earlier this year that United Properties and Four Seasons Minneapolis are partnering with renowned Chef Gavin Kaysen to develop a world-class dining experience at the site.
The office portion of RBC Gateway is already 95 percent preleased, with tenants RBC Wealth Management, for which the tower is named; the Pohlad Companies — including United Properties, Carousel Motor Group, Pohlad Family Foundation and Pohlad Investment Group — JLL; and Castlelake. About 20,000 square feet of office space is still available for leasing. Details are available at rbcgatewaympls.com.
In addition to the Twin Cities’ first five-star hotel, 34 Four Seasons Private Residences will occupy the top six floors of the tower. These curated private residences will have access to the hotel’s world-class amenities — and stunning views of downtown Minneapolis. More information is available at mplsprivateresidences.com.
