The Shenehon Center for Real Estate at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business in Minneapolis has announced the 2025 inductees into the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame.

Established in 2010, this prestigious award honors, preserves and perpetuates the names and accomplishments of real estate leaders who have made a significant contribution in real estate and demonstrated care and concern for improving their community as business leaders. This year’s inductees include:

  • Charles “Chuck” T. Lutz, Former City of Minneapolis CPED/MCDA Deputy Director
  • Kelley Lindquist, Founder of Artspace
  • Patrick “Pat” G. Ryan, Chairman of the Board, Ryan Companies
  • Sid Bader, Founder of Bader Companies

The university’s selection committee reviewed numerous nominations for this year’s Hall of Fame class. Lutz, Lindquist, Ryan, and Bader were selected based on their transformative impact on the industry, unwavering ethical standards, and dedication to strengthening communities.

The induction ceremony will take place during a breakfast program on Wednesday, November 12, at The Club in Golden Valley. This year’s keynote will be delivered by Aron Ralston, the adventurer whose harrowing survival story captivated the world and inspired the Oscar-nominated film 127 Hours. Trapped for six days by an 800-pound boulder in a remote Utah canyon, Ralston’s remarkable resilience and will to live have made him one of the most sought-after motivational speakers of our time. His powerful message challenges us to rethink obstacles, embrace purpose, and discover meaning in even the most difficult circumstances.

Registration for the induction ceremony is now open at: https://secure.touchnet.com/C20237_ustores/web/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTID=1911

Biographies on the 2025 MN Real Estate Hall of Fame Inductees

Charles T. Lutz

Charles “Chuck” T. Lutz is a respected leader in managing complex real estate development projects, known for a career dedicated to public service with the City of Minneapolis. For decades at the Minneapolis Community Development Agency (later the Department of Community Planning and Economic Development) he was a steadying presence, often stepping in as acting Director yet purposefully remaining Deputy, where he could provide continuity, mentor new leadership, and oversee high-profile projects.

Over the course of his tenure, Lutz worked with nine directors, seven mayors, and 57 council members, leaving a lasting imprint on the city’s landscape. His portfolio includes serving as lead project manager for the $1 billion U.S. Bank Stadium and the $600 million Downtown East redevelopment, as well as pivotal roles in the Target Center renovation, restoration of Hennepin Avenue’s historic theaters, and the transformation of the former Sears store into the Midtown Exchange and Global Market.

Lutz retired from city service in 2019, concluding with the Navigation Center for the Homeless, a collaborative response to a critical community need. Today, he continues to share his expertise as a consultant for both the City of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority. His career reflects not only technical excellence and deep institutional knowledge but also an unwavering commitment to strengthening communities and shaping the city for generations to come.

Kelley Lindquist

Kelley Lindquist transformed Artspace Projects, Inc. into the nation’s leading nonprofit real estate developer for creative communities. When he joined the organization in 1987 as its sole employee with a $60,000 budget, few could have imagined the scale of what he would build. Over the next 38 years, he grew Artspace into a nationally recognized force expanding to a staff of 70, managing a $20 million annual budget, and overseeing 51 mixed-use projects across the country representing more than $600 million in investment.

These developments produced over 1,700 live/work units for low-income artists and their families and provided $3 million annually in rent subsidies. Nearly 500 commercial tenants, including arts organizations, creative entrepreneurs, and small businesses, benefited from affordable, below-market-rate space. Lindquist made inclusivity a cornerstone of his work, advancing projects in Native American, African American, and Latino communities nationwide.

In 2017, Artspace established the Lindquist Legacy Fund to honor his decades of leadership. Upon his retirement in 2024, he left an enduring imprint on America’s cultural infrastructure. Recognized with prestigious honors such as the University of Minnesota’s Outstanding Achievement Award and the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Honor Award, Lindquist showed how visionary real estate development can preserve heritage, empower artists, and strengthen communities for generations.

Patrick “Pat” G. Ryan

Patrick “Pat” G. Ryan, Chairman of the Board at Ryan Companies, has built a career defined by vision, resilience, and service to both business and community. Over more than 35 years with his family’s multigenerational enterprise, including a decade as President and CEO, he successfully guided the company through periods of profound challenge and remarkable growth.

In 2009, amid a deep recession and the sudden loss of family leadership, Ryan’s steady hand and perseverance stabilized the organization. Under his leadership, Ryan Companies entered a transformative era in which revenues doubled and the workforce nearly tripled. His leadership has left a lasting mark on the Twin Cities through landmark projects such as the Midtown Exchange, Downtown East with Wells Fargo’s office towers, and the 122-acre Highland Bridge redevelopment. His impact also extends nationally with signature developments like State Farm’s Marina Heights in Arizona.

Since becoming Chairman in 2018, Ryan has sharpened the company’s focus on governance, capital formation, and senior housing, positioning the business for long-term vitality and multigenerational success.

Equally recognized as a civic leader, Ryan founded Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, chairs the University of St. Thomas Board of Trustees, and co-chairs the Spring Point Project for diabetes research. His career reflects not only business acumen but also a deep and enduring commitment to advancing community well-being.

Sid Bader

Sid Bader’s journey from the son of a Minneapolis tailor to a visionary leader in real estate is a story of determination, foresight, and lasting influence. While raising a family, he pursued multiple professional qualifications and worked tirelessly across several jobs, embodying an unwavering commitment to growth and opportunity. In 1963, he co-founded his first real estate venture, planting the seed for what would evolve into the multifaceted Bader Companies.

Under his leadership, the enterprise grew to encompass Bader Development and the Bader Diamond Fund, together owning, managing, and operating more than 17,000 residential units across the Twin Cities and Dallas. His strategic approach to multifamily housing, combined with a keen understanding of market dynamics, established him as a respected force within the industry.

Yet Bader’s legacy extends well beyond bricks and mortar. A dedicated mentor, he has invested deeply in cultivating the next generation of leaders, sharing hard-earned wisdom to strengthen both people and communities. His influence lives not only in the skyline and neighborhoods he helped shape, but also in the values of integrity, perseverance, and service he instilled along the way.
