Miron Construction Co., Inc. on Sept. 16 began work on a new 13-MW peaking plant for Michigan South Central Power Agency in Coldwater, Mich.
The ground-breaking for the new Coldwater facility took place at 150 N. Fillmore Road.
With completion scheduled for mid-2015, the new plant will house two-stage gas engines to power about 13,000 homes during peak loads at maximum efficiency and has the capability of using captured heat and carbon dioxide from the engines to help grow vegetables in an adjacent greenhouse complex owned and operated by Mastronardi Produce.
Mastronardi Produce grows gourmet tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers year-round in North America.
The Michigan South Central Power Agency selected Inland Power Group and GE Power & Water to provide process equipment for the project.
