Newmark Knight Frank (NKF) announced that vice chairman Bob Chodos will accept one of the American Red Cross’s highest awards, the Heritage Award, at the 16th Annual Heroes Breakfast hosted by the American Red Cross Chicago and Northern Illinois chapter. The breakfast honors individuals and groups that have demonstrated heroism in the community. The event will take place at the Hilton Chicago on May 3, 2018.
Chodos will accept the philanthropic Heritage Award on behalf of the Turning the Tide Committee for Hurricane Relief. The committee, formed by Chodos, is being honored for the fundraising events they held to support those affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and in 2017 for Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma. Both events raised more than $1 million each for Red Cross disaster relief efforts.
“I am honored and humbled to accept the award on behalf of the Turning the Tide Committee,” said Chodos. “What began as a simple email among colleagues to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina grew beyond expectations. I am proud of the committee’s efforts and grateful to our team and supporters, as well as to the American Red Cross for all that they do to aid in disaster relief.”
Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Chodos emailed colleagues and friends of the real estate and construction industry expressing his devastation about the catastrophic effects of Katrina on the families in Louisiana. His single email sparked a movement and led to the formation of the Turning the Tide Committee. The organization has since raised more than $2 million for the American Red Cross for Hurricanes Katrina, Harvey, Maria and Irma, covering the southeastern U.S. and its U.S. coastal territories.
