The Wing, a work and community space designed for women, is set to open at 811 W. Fulton Street in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, according to a report in the Chicago Sun Times. The brand seeks to further “the professional, civic, social and economic advancement of women through community.”
Part co-working office, part social club, amenities at the 9,000-square-foot space will include a beauty room, a lactation room, a cafe/bar, a library and a main co-working space. Based in New York, The Wing has locations there as well as in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The new Fulton Market location will be the brand’s seventh; other locations planned in the next two years include Boston, London, Toronto and Seattle.
“Programming is a key part of what The Wing has to offer,” Zara Rahim, senior director of strategic communications at The Wing, said to the Sun Times. “I remember in one week alone in December we had Tina Fey, Jennifer Lopez and Maya Rudolph in a space. In 2019, we’re really excited to bring that programming to Chicago.”
Last April, Mayor Rahm Emanuel sent a letter to The Wing founders, Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan, requesting a location in Chicago. Plans for a Windy City location were apparently already under way, but the mayor’s letter catalyzed those efforts. The Chicago location is scheduled to open in March 2019.
