Omaha’s Baird Holm celebrates 150th anniversary

As the oldest law firm in Nebraska, Baird Holm LLP is proud to announce the celebration of its 150th anniversary this year.

The theme for this milestone year is “Legal Counsel for a Lifetime,” which naturally complements the firm’s mission to provide its clients with superior advocacy and counseling solutions delivered by a highly reputable, specialized, innovative, and diverse legal team.

Founded by Milton Montgomery and his son Carroll (C.S.) Montgomery in 1873, the firm now has 100 attorneys supported by a full team of paralegals, legal assistants and staff. Since its formation, the firm has witnessed 29 U.S. Presidents, two World Wars, a Great Depression, a global pandemic, and numerous cultural and technological revolutions. At the time the firm was founded, Nebraska was just six years old, and rapidly growing as the railroad brought more people to the Midwest. Over time, the firm went through a series of mergers. In 1970, the firm known as Young, Holm, McEachen & Hamann merged with Lane, Baird, Pederson & Haggard, resulting in the creation of Baird Holm LLP. While the firm’s name has changed through the years, what has been consistent is its commitment to Nebraska and its dedication to its clients.

“Our people have always been the defining factor that sets our firm apart from others. We are a partnership in the true sense of the word, not just a collection of attorneys practicing law independently,” said Baird Holm Managing Partner Chris Hedican. “This model differentiates us in that it is set up to promote attorney collaboration; we are a true team with a shared objective to achieve positive outcomes for our clients. This, coupled with the support of our excellent and committed staff, many of whom have made their career at Baird Holm and retired from it, is the secret to our longevity and helps us provide excellent value to the clients we serve,” said Hedican.

Baird Holm is grateful to the community of Omaha for its outstanding support throughout the years. The attorneys and staff at Baird Holm understand the value of taking care of the people and the community around them. Over the past century and a half, the firm and its members have been active contributors to hundreds of charitable organizations and other nonprofits, through countless hours and a sincere dedication to the missions of these organizations. Members of the firm hold leadership positions in a wide variety of local, regional, and national organizations, professional affiliations, neighborhood associations, art and theater groups, service clubs, and educational institutions. To help further facilitate this culture of giving back to the vibrant Omaha community, Baird Holm recently launched a new program called BH Community Works. This firm wide program provides additional opportunities for attorneys and staff to act as representatives of the firm while donating their time, talents, and financial resources to different organizations and volunteer efforts in the community.

As the firm looks ahead to the future, it is proud to continue the tradition of innovative leadership, dedicated service to clients, and exceptional teamwork that has made it successful for 150 years.
