It’s always good to see commercial real estate companies expand. It’s another sign that the industry, though still struggling, is on the mend.
The latest commercial real estate company to make a big move is Darland Construction, a construction firm based in Omaha.
The company earlier this year opened a second office in the Kansas City area, specifically Lenexa, Kan. In an official announcement, Darland officials pointed to the large number of commercial deals that Darland has completed in the Kansas City area during the last 10 years as the reason behind the new office.
Dennis O’Grady, a commercial industry veteran and vice president of operations with Darland, will head the new Kansas City-area office.
“I decided to accept the offer from Darland because they have an excellent reputation for putting their clients first, and that has always been a top priority for me,” said O’Grady in a written statement. “Darland is known to be a champion for the owner. Architects like that. Owners love that. I like that. I’m proud to be part of the Darland team.”
O’Grady brings more than three decades of experience in the construction industry to his new position. All of this experience comes in the Kansas City area, so he is more than familiar with the local market.
Some of Darland’s recently completed projects in the Kansas City area include Olathe Pointe, a 220,000-square-foot shopping center in Olathe, Kan.; Olathe Gateway, a 25,425-square-foot multi-tenant retail project in Olathe; and the T-Hanger Complex, a 150,000-square-foot hanger serving corporate and recreational pilots at the Charles B. Wheeler airport.
Let’s hope that this is far from the only new office announcement from commercial firms. The more activity we see from commercial real estate companies, the better our economy will perform.
