National property development firm Oppidan Investment Company will redevelop the former Kowalski’s Market grocery store at 4414 Humboldt Avenue N. in Minneapolis for Pillsbury United Communities.
Pillsbury United Communities is a non-profit offering a variety of education, youth and family, wellness and nutrition, and employment and training programs and services to underserved populations throughout Minneapolis.
The two-story development, called North Market, will include a 15,000-square-foot grocery store and a 5,000-square-foot wellness center. Pillsbury United Communities will operate the grocery store and neighborhood market. North Memorial Health Care will occupy the second floor and provide nutritional counseling; a Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Clinic; cooking classes; a retail clinic; and additional services.
Oppidan and Pillsbury United Communities are currently working with the City of Minneapolis to obtain the necessary approvals and with Hennepin County to obtain the development rights to move forward. Oppidan expects construction to begin in late 2016 with North Market opening sometime in 2017.
