Opus Design Build, L.L.C. has been awarded a contract from Creighton University in Omaha to renovate and build an addition to the Harper Center, creating a new home for the school’s College of Business.
As part of this project, portions of four additional campus buildings will be renovated to accommodate a variety of other academic departments and student services. The results of these multiple projects will be a more efficient use of the buildings on campus.
“We have a great relationship with Creighton University and are pleased to continue to partner with them on this multi-phased project,” said Craig Larson, vice president at Opus Design Build. “There are challenges associated with the age and condition of many of the affected buildings. This project showcases the collaboration between our two organizations to find a solution that will use Creighton’s physical space more efficiently.”
Originally completed in 2008, about one-third of the 220,000-square-foot Harper Center will be remodeled to house Creighton’s College of Business. The current office space will become the department’s administrative center, the Dean’s suite and faculty offices. A new entry and lobby will be constructed creating a unique identity for the program. Plans for the build-out include a glass-walled, high tech classroom that is visible from the lobby, featuring flat panels, digital display stock ticker and the latest stock trading terminals.
The project broke ground in late 2012 and is slated for completion by early 2014.
