Overstock.com, an online home goods and furniture retailer, will open a new distribution center in Kansas City, Kansas. The new facility, at 5300 Kansas Ave., will total 517,000 square feet.

Plans are for the facility to begin outbound order fulfillment operations in October. Eventually, the facility will also handle returns processing.

Overstock estimates that the warehouse will create more than 100 jobs for the community during the next two years.

The Kansas City Area Development Council partnered with several organizations to bring Overstock.com to Kansas. These groups were the state of Kansas, Kansas Department of Commerce, Wyandotte County Economic Development Council, Board of Public Utilities, Newmark Grubb Zimmer, QPS Employment, Focus Workforce Management, Express Employment Professionals, IMKO Workforce Solutions and KC SmartPort.
