Peet’s occupies 1,140 square feet on the ground floor of the south tower of the building at 400-410 N. Michigan Ave. The Peet’s store has been built with the company’s new, contemporary store design that showcases the art of its coffee making and also features historic photos of The Wrigley Building from the early 20th century.
“We’re excited to open our new flagship store in the remarkably restored Wrigley Building – a true Chicago icon and historical landmark that we’re honored to now call home,” said Dave Burwick, president and CEO of Peet’s Coffee & Tea.
The Ghirardelli shop will occupy a total of 7,000 SF; 1,300 SF on the ground floor will have two bay windows facing Michigan Avenue and additional windows on the plaza; an additional 5,700 SF will be on the second floor where up to 100 guests will be able to sit and enjoy one of Ghirardelli’s decadent hot fudge sundaes. Ghirardelli will continue to operate its ice cream and chocolate shop at its current location at 830 N. Michigan Avenue.
“Our effort to reposition The Wrigley Building as a high quality commercial destination on Michigan Avenue continues to be validated by our retail leasing success to date. The addition of best-in-class brands including Ghiradelli and Peet’s Coffee & Tea are very complimentary to the building, already anchored by a Walgreens flagship store,” said E. Robbie Robinson, managing director of BDT Capital Partners, a majority owner of the Wrigley Building. BDT Capital Partners is a minority investor in Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Inc., a privately owned company based in Emeryville, Calif.
“These well-known retailers enhance this thriving section of Michigan Avenue and offer excellent products and services to our tenants and the neighborhood,” said Ari Glass, principal at Zeller Realty Group. The Wrigley Building now has 7,000 SF of retail space available for lease with the majority of the space on the ground floor off the plaza.
