Portman announced the groundbreaking of Gateway 1960, a three-building, Class-A industrial park encompassing 714,233 square feet in Houston.
A ceremonial groundbreaking marking the start of construction will take place on Oct. 12. The project is expected to deliver in Q3 2027.
Located near George Bush Intercontinental Airport with quick access to Interstate 45, Gateway 1960 will put tenants close to a Houston-area population of approximately 7.8 million in one of the nation’s fastest-growing industrial markets, fueled by population growth and global trade. The park will encompass three buildings: a 440,323-square-foot cross-dock, a 157,723-square-foot front-load and a 116,293-square-foot rear-load building. Each will offer divisible configurations with spec office space, LED lighting and dock-high loading with levelers, so tenants can move in immediately upon delivery.
“Gateway 1960 will offer regional and national users a strategic platform to expand their Houston operations given its proximity to George Bush Intercontinental Airport and seamless access to the region’s key transportation corridors,” said Fritz Wyler, managing director of industrial for Portman. “This groundbreaking brings us one step closer to delivering premier, move-in-ready industrial space in a market with strong and sustained demand.”
Portman launched its industrial business line in 2021 and today has 4.5 million square feet developed and 6.4 million square feet under development in key markets, including Boston, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Charleston, Austin and now Houston. Partners is leading marketing and leasing for Gateway 1960 on behalf of Portman.
The Gateway 1960 project team also includes Angler Construction as the general contractor, Powers Brown Architecture as the architect, and Langan as the civil engineer.
