PREMIER Design + Build Group, on behalf of Bridge Development Partners, recently led the demolition of a 695-foot former radio broadcast tower. The work paves the way for a new mixed-use development at the southeast corner of Devon Avenue and Rohlwing Road in northwest suburban Itasca, Illinois.

WBBM Newsradio had broadcast from the site since 1942. The radio tower and its transmitter had been relocated to Itasca from a site near the former Glenview Naval Air Station at the request of the U.S. Navy. The request came not long after the bombing of Pearl Harbor when the U.S. entered World War II and air traffic increased around the Glenview Naval Air Station. As of July 14, WBBM Newsradio is now using a tower and transmitter with WSCR in Bloomingdale, Illinois.

PREMIER supervised the demolition of the main tower on July 18 and a smaller auxiliary tower of approximately 300 feet on July 16. Premier has been tapped by Bridge Development Partners to provide design + build services for the new development known as Bridge Point Itasca. This development will include three new multi-use industrial buildings totaling 741,621 square feet and two new retail lots.

Diana Wolfe of PREMIER is project manager, working with superintendent Rip Pogue. Other key members of the PREMIER team for Bridge Point Itasca include senior vice president and Midwest market leader Michael Long, Mark Melone, executive vice president, director of construction and Ron Nelsen, senior vice president of field operations, Midwest division.
