The restaurateurs behind Trenchermen and Bar DeVille, two West Town hot spots known to foodies and hipsters, will open a new restaurant in the space formerly occupied by the historic Ohio House Coffee Shop at 600 N. LaSalle St. in Chicago’s River North neighborhood.
Michael Weber and Ian Feinerman, senior brokers for @properties Commercial, were the sole brokers in the transaction in which Heisler Hospitality Group signed a long-term lease for the 600-square-foot restaurant space adjoining the Ohio House Motel, a classic, low-rise 1960s-style motel that has endured the transformation of River North into a bustling urban neighborhood. The building is owned by 600 N. LaSalle LLC.
The new restaurant – as yet unnamed –will have a small menu with a focus on artisan biscuits and sandwiches, according to the new tenants. Feinerman said the restaurant also will provide room service to guests of the motel. Ohio House Coffee Shop occupied the space for 53 years, before closing in April.
Located at the northwest corner of LaSalle Street and Ohio Street, the property is less than a half-mile east of the Interstate 90/94 Ohio Street feeder ramp.
“This will be a totally original addition to River North’s thriving restaurant scene,” Weber said. “With Heisler Hospitality’s strong track record and such a high-visibility location, we can expect this place to draw a crowd.”
The restaurant is scheduled to open this fall.
