Reed Construction announced that the firm has begun renovations to the third and fourth floors at the former Maryville Behavioral Health Hospital located at 555 Wilson Lane in Des Plaines, Illinois.
The facility was acquired by US HealthVest in fourth quarter 2014 and has been renamed Chicago Behavioral Hospital. Reed Construction was selected by US HealthVest to perform substantial updates to the existing space, and began working in mid-May.
Reed Construction is set to perform 22,000 square-feet of internal renovations to the facility’s architectural components on the third and fourth floors, including spacious new patient rooms and large group therapy rooms.
The project also involves a total upgrade to various mechanical, electrical and plumbing components, including a variable refrigerant volume mechanical system. Nurse calling and fire alarm systems will also be updated to ensure patient care and safety. The facility will remain fully operational throughout construction.
Originally founded in 1883, the faith-based, 125-bed facility provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and day hospital care for adolescents, including a general psychiatric unit and an intensive care unit. Following renovations, the facility will also expand to include services for adults, as the hospital was recently accredited to perform geriatric care.
Rich Melone will be leading the project team as project executive for Reed Construction. Joe Kozlowski will serve as the firm’s project manager and Erik Gunderson as the project engineer. Architectural services will be provided by Miro Petrovic (AIA, ACHA) of US HealthVest. Construction of the renovated space is scheduled for completion in November 2015.
