There are a lot of remote workers out there still. And many of them are looking to move in 2023, according to the latest study from Apartment List.
Apartment List surveyed workers in December of last year about their future plans. A total of 36% of respondents told the company that they planned to move in 2023. This is significantly higher than on-site workers, with only 27% of them reporting that they planned to move this year.
What is interesting, though, is that those workers who are most likely to move in 2023 are those in hybrid work arrangements. A total of 44% of these workers said that they are planning to move to a new residence this year.
Apartment List found, too, that 28% of remote workers say they are planning to move to a location with greater access to natural amenities. This makes sense: These workers aren’t tied to any particular city. Why wouldn’t they move to an area with more amenities?
In other findings, Apartment List reported that 30% of remote workers said that they planned to move to a more spacious home, while 33% of on-site workers said the same thing. Additionally 28% of remote workers told Apartment List that they planned to buy a home in 2023, while 31% of on-site workers said the same.
What about savings? A total of 26% of on-site workers said they planned to move this year to reduce their housing costs, while 27% of remote workers said the same.
According to the survey results, 26% of remote workers said they wanted to move to a location that had greater access to urban amenities. Only 18% of on-site workers said the same.
