National retailer Sam’s Club will close seven stores in Illinois, according to a report by ABC7. The closures are to occur by January 26.
“After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy,” the company responded via Twitter. “Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition.”
Of the 32 Sam’s Club locations in Illinois, the closures are occurring in Batavia, Matteson, Moline, Naperville, Romeoville, Streamwood and Wheeling. Walmart Stores, Inc., the warehouse chain’s parent company, closed hundreds of locations in early 2016.
