Scherrer Construction Co., Inc. in partnership with Plunkett Raysich Architects LLP recently completed a $35 million construction project to build the new Karcher Middle School within the Burlington Area School District in Burlington, Wisconsin.
The 145,000-square-foot school will serve more than 700 students and has improved security and safety features. The building has several core curriculum classrooms for all grade levels, six through eight, as well as spaces for special education and elective programming including STEM education, art, band, orchestra and choir.
Construction also included a new gymnasium, fitness room and state-of-the-art locker rooms, as well as enhanced common areas including a library with flexible learning spaces, cafeteria and staff offices.
The original Karcher Middle School was built in 1924 and was nearly 100 years old. The building was past its useful life and no longer served the needs of today’s 21st century learning environment. The updated Karcher Middle School is part of Burlington Area School District’s strategic plan for district-wide updates to its facilities.
