W.E. O’Neil has broken ground on the site work at the former McDonald’s Plaza in Oak Brook, Illinois. This initial phase includes improvements to the 17.5-acre site in preparation for a large, mixed-use development with apartments, a hotel, restaurants, office and retail space. Developer Hines acquired the property in July 2018.
Located at 2111 McDonald Drive, the property is just east of the Oakbrook Center mall and north of the 74-acre former McDonald’s main Oak Brook campus, which itself sold in June 2019 to John Paul Mitchell Systems co-founder, John Paul DeJoria. JLL brokered both transactions for McDonald’s, following the fast food giant’s move to Chicago’s Fulton Market.
The beginning of construction work was marked by the demolition of the existing, 1972-built to make way for a multi-tower “new village center.” Antunovich Associates is designing the new multi-use buildings and V3 is handling all civil engineering duties.
