Skender, serving as general contractor, completed the 230,000-square-foot buildout of Invenergy’s One South Wacker Drive headquarters in Chicago.

As North America’s largest privately held developer, owner, and operator of power infrastructure, Invenergy originally occupied floors 18, 19 and 20. Skender completed upgrades to those floors in addition to the demolition and full construction of five additional floors (14-17). Invenergy now occupies seven floors. The project supports Invenergy’s ongoing growth and strengthens its long-term commitment to downtown Chicago.

Working alongside Lumen Workplace as Owner’s Rep, Partners by Design as architect, and Syska Hennessy as engineer, Skender delivered the buildout and renovation in three phases over 12 months.

In its final state, the new headquarters emphasizes connectivity, collaboration and well-being. It includes an open-office concept, a three-floor atrium stair, two roof decks, a large café and an 8,000-square-foot state-of-the-art control center for managing global power markets and operations. Floor 15 now serves as the heart of the workplace, featuring a new reception area and boardroom to support both formal executive functions and informal employee gatherings.

Designed with intention and flexibility, the new headquarters supports Invenergy’s growth as it continues to deliver reliable, affordable energy for its customers and invests in the people who power its business. The open-office concept and downtown presence reflect the company’s belief in the office as a hub for growth.
