Smita Sahoo, NCIDQ, LEED, has joined CannonDesign as a design leader and vice president in the firm’s commercial market. Based in the Chicago office, Sahoo will focus on partnering with organizations and developers both in the city and globally.
“This is an exciting moment for CannonDesign and our commercial team,” said Meg Osman, executive director of CannonDesign’s global commercial market. “Smita’s design capabilities amplify our ability to help organizations create memorable and effective solutions from day one. She will help us achieve new possibilities within the hospitality vertical and bolsters our team in every other market we serve.”
Sahoo has an extensive portfolio spanning commercial, hospitality, technology and mixed-use projects. Informed by a diverse background in architecture, interior design and environmental psychology, she has worked across the world and excels at guiding organizations through the entire design process from concept design through final construction. Her recent work includes projects with Microsoft, Magellan Development Group, Lendlease group, JLL, Newmark Knight Frank and numerous others.
“I find great joy in helping organizations bring their stories to life through design in meaningful ways,” said Sahoo. “That focus on life experience and a willingness to think bigger and reach for new heights is wired into CannonDesign’s DNA. I’m so excited to be here and work with the teams and clients to create meaningful spaces.”
A recognized voice in the design profession, Sahoo regularly serves on design juries, speaks at industry events and authors research papers. She holds memberships with Corenet and the IIDA and studied at both the University of Mumbai and University of Florida. She joins a commercial team currently working with dynamic companies including Square, Showtime, LinkedIn, Cboe Global Markets, LLC, Delaware North and more.
