The lineup of speakers is set for Illinois Real Estate Journal’s Annual Healthcare & Real Estate Facilities Conference on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the University Club of Chicago. The conference begins at 7 am with registration and continental breakfast.
Illinois Real Estate Journal, in collaboration with Healthcare Real Estate Insights, has assembled almost 20 speakers from more than 15 different commercial real estate and healthcare firms to address issues, trends and various topics of interest to those involved in healthcare real estate.
“Healthcare real estate remains one of the most vibrant sectors in commercial real estate,” said Mark Menzies, publisher, Illinois Real Estate Journal and Midwest Real Estate News. “Yet with healthcare reform, increasing pressures on healthcare systems to improve efficiencies and return and a still tight credit market, the industry is not without its challenges.”
Menzies said this conference brings the issues of healthcare and real estate together to bring about thought-provoking discussions and perspectives on how the real estate industry can meet the ever changing demands of the healthcare industry.
John Mugford, the editor of Healthcare Real Estate Insights, will give a brief overview of prevalent conditions in the industry—including reporting on acquisition, disposition and development activity—and set the stage for the State of the Market panel that is the first of three panels. Members of that first panel, moderated by Mugford, include Deeni Taylor, Duke Realty Healthcare; Ted McKenna, Colliers International; Jeff Davis, Cambridge; John Sweet, Ziegler Healthcare Real Estate Funds; and Richard Taylor, Jones Lang LaSalle.
Following that panel will be a series of brief case studies, from the hospital system perspective and from the vantage point of a developer. These presentations will be made by Robert Hauptman, Resurrection Hospital, and Scott Goodman, Sterling Bay (the developer of the Burr Ridge Medical Center).
The second panel will take a closer look at Developing, Investing and Leasing healthcare properties. Members of that panel are John Wilson, HSA; Keith Konkoli, Duke Realty Healthcare; Dave Arnold, Irgens; and Doug Bath, Walker & Dunlop. It will be moderated by John Mugford, Healthcare Real Estate Insights. Rounding out the conference is the Designing, Building and Finishing panel. Sharon Lleva-Carter with Duke will moderate a panel that features Ray LaBrec, Power/Jacobs; Brad Wilson, Bluestone Healthcare Partners; Scott Pickands, REED Construction; and Jim Hayes, GRAEF.
