St. Louis’ McCarthy Holdings, Inc. began the celebration of the company’s 150th anniversary in January. Throughout the year, McCarthy officials will hold special events to commemorate the firm, one of the oldest American-owned construction companies.
McCarthy was founded as a family business in 1864, during the height of the Civil War. It is now the nation’s eighth-largest domestic general contractor. Its 2013 revenues were higher than $3 billion.
“McCarthy has been part of the fabric of St. Louis since its early beginnings, and has been a trusted partner to many of the city’s institutions,” said Scott Witkop, central division president for McCarthy. “We are committed to our clients and to the community where we live and work.”
McCarthy built its first healthcare project in 1904 in Missouri. Today, the company ranks as the largest American-based healthcare builder.
