Surprise! Strip malls don’t have to be ugly

Strip malls are ugly, right?

Not necessarily. Midwest Real Estate News recently asked the retail brokers at Southfield, Michigan’s Farbman Group for examples of retail strip centers that actually boasted some visual flair.

They came up with two in their market, and we think you’ll agree: These strip centers are far from eyesores.

The first is St. Clair Plaza, at 1180 S. Carney Drive in St. Clair, Michigan. This 83,945-square-foot plaza is 89 percent occupied and anchored by McLaren Port Huron Hospital and Neiman’s Market.

The second is Foley Town Square at 3110-2302 Silver Lake in Fenton, Michigan. This 41,907-square-foot strip center is 92 percent occupied. Medewar Jewelers, Pet Supply Plus and Buffalo Wild Wings are the anchors here.

No one would compare either of these strip centers to the Louvre. But they are an improvement over the drab, blocky strip centers that we see along most busy streets. They are also proof that strip centers need not be ugly.
