The Missner Group, LLC and joint-venture partner, Baker Development Corporation (BDC), announced the development of a new, 20,000 square foot fitness facility for First Ascent at 3500 N. Spaulding in Chicago.
“When we purchased the land in 2013, we knew demand in this market was on the rise,” said Barry Missner, president of The Missner Group. “The space is ideally located and provides First Ascent with the opportunity to develop a community-based sporting facility in an otherwise land constrained pocket of the City.”
First Ascent Chicago will feature a 60′ high climbing area with Walltopia-designed climbing terrain from Bulgaria; top rope and lead walls with overhangs, roofs, slabs and cracks; 5,000 square feet of stand-alone bouldering with caves, prows and overhangs; and a yoga studio. The Missner Group will also construct a 7,000 square foot mezzanine for a training center with system boards and slacklines as well as a full-body fitness area. The center will also include a café, pro-shop, locker rooms and community spaces.
Executive Vice President, Glen Missner, VP of Construction Drue Stoehr and Superintendent Gary Bertoncini will oversee the construction of the new climbing facility. Fitzgerald Associates is providing the architectural services. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2015.
