The Opus Group recently completed construction of The Inn at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, an 18,500-square-foot renovation and expansion of the historic Phelps Infirmary in Faribault, Minn., a building originally built in 1867.
The landmark was repurposed into an on-campus inn and event space for the Shattuck-St. Mary’s School.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s School is an Episcopal boarding and day school. The recently completed Inn at Shattuck-St. Mary’s serves as the diocesan retreat and meeting center for the Episcopal Church in Minnesota.
“The Inn at Shattuck-St. Mary’s was an exciting challenge for Opus,” said Tim Callahan, senior project manager for Opus Design Build, L.L.C. “It was an honor to participate in this project, recognizing the historical significance of the space. The completed project demonstrates the expertise of our team in working to enhance existing structures, enabling those spaces to meet modern-day needs.”
Opus helped Shattuck-St. Mary’s to execute a complete remodel of the 147-year-old building, adding approximately 10,000 square feet of new space to the two-story complex. The first floor of the building features a large meeting room with adjustable partitions, a catering kitchen, bar and lounge area that can be used for meetings and events. The second floor offers 12 guest suites. The space was designed to complement the campus’ historic and traditional style, while incorporating modern and practical functionality.
