Katriina McGuire

Thompson Coburn announced that partner Katriina McGuire has been named the managing partner of our Chicago office, effective February 16, 2022. Katriina, the chair of Thompson Coburn’s Real Estate Land Use practice, takes over from Rick Reibman, who has led the office since 2020.

Katriina will lead a full-service office of 68 attorneys that have represented almost half of Chicago’s 100 largest public companies and nearly 30% of its 100 largest privately held companies in an assortment of corporate transactional, real estate and litigation matters. The office’s attorneys are alumni of the SEC, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Illinois State Senate, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and other regulatory bodies.

Katriina joins a leadership team of Thompson Coburn office managing partners that are now majority-women, including Nicole Williams (Dallas), Jennifer Post (Los Angeles), and Eileen Brown (Washington, D.C.).

As a real estate and land use attorney, Katriina helps clients navigate challenging land use and zoning issues throughout the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs, paving the way for successful developments. For more than two decades, she has advocated for a broad range of clients before the City of Chicago and suburban plan commissions, zoning and economic development committees, zoning boards of appeals and village boards.

In addition to her leadership of Thompson Coburn’s Real Estate Land Use practice, Katriina serves as one of the lateral hiring partners for the Chicago office, focusing on the hiring and successful integration of lateral partners and associates in Chicago. She also chairs the Firm’s Women’s Initiative Steering Committee.

Katriina earned her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Washington.
