
Hiva Nasiri, an expert in the design of power systems and energy planning, recently joined Thornton Tomasetti’s Applied Science practice as vice president. Based in the Chicago office, Nasiri will be supporting the firm’s electrification and energy expansion efforts.
He will be assisting clients with the development of comprehensive energy solutions, such as microgrids and the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DERs), including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar panels, and wind turbines. His work includes strategies for improving the reliability and quality of power systems, electromagnetic dynamic studies and digital simulations. He was previously with K&A Engineering Consulting.
Nasiri has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) and a master’s degree in electrical power systems from K.N. Toosi University of Technology, both of which are in Tehran, Iran. He also has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Nasiri is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and an editorial board member of its electrification magazine.
