NelsonHill has completed the sale of a 42,500-square-foot industrial building located at 2009 S. Lumber St. in Chicago to U-Haul. Value of the sale was approximately $4 million.
U-Haul has purchased the building for the expansion and further growth of its brand in the Chicago marketplace. The DIY moving and storage company will utilize the property as a sales, storage and distribution hub.
“This building offers a great location for U-Haul,” said Frank Melchert of NelsonHill. “The property is located just minutes from Chicago’s CBD with immediate access to expressways. With an excellent land to building ratio, the property should serve U-Haul’s day-to-day operations very well.”
The facility sits on a 2.9-acre site situated on the near south side between Pilsen and Chinatown along the Chicago River south branch with frontage along South Lumber Street. Features of the two-story facility include Class A office build-out, one dock and five drive-in doors. The location benefits from immediate access to I-90/94 and is blocks from the CTA.
Melchert worked on behalf of the landlord, McNulty Construction/Lumber Street Supply Co. in the transaction. The buyer, U-Haul, was not represented.
