Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm, announced the completion of the new Golden State Foods facility located at 8901 W. 47th Street in McCook, Ill. Ware Malcomb provided full service architecture and interior architecture and design services for this build-to-suit project, which recently earned a LEED® Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. Founded in 1947, Golden State Foods is one of the largest diversified suppliers to the food service industry. The general contractor for the project is McShane Construction Company.
The new Golden State Foods facility includes a 156,691 square foot state-of-the-art distribution center complete with cooler, freezer and dry warehouse space; a two-story lobby and Class A office space at the front; and a separate 8,539 square foot truck maintenance building with an automated truck wash that uses recycled water.
The project also includes a test and demonstration kitchen within the event space at the facility. The event space is an interior/exterior environment designed for cooking demonstrations, guest tastings, and gourmet dining experiences. It features a fully stocked prep kitchen with cooler and freezer storage space. The demonstration area has been designed to allow for guests to view the food preparation process and is equipped with the latest in commercial kitchen technology.
“Golden State Foods has an outstanding reputation for quality manufacturing and distribution, so we knew we had to design and build a facility that would allow them to exceed the high expectations of their customers,” said Cameron Trefry, Regional Director of Ware Malcomb’s Chicago office. “It was exciting for Ware Malcomb to be involved in all aspects of this project from start to finish – from the exterior architecture and interior design to assisting in the furniture selection and procurement for the new facility.”
