Ware Malcomb hires new director, interior architecture and design in firm’s Chicago office

Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm, today announced director, interior architecture & design in the firm’s downtown Chicago office. In his role, Schwamel is responsible for leading the downtown Chicago office and overseeing the growth of the Interiors Studio in the region. 

Schwamel brings more than 20 years of experience to Ware Malcomb, with proven capabilities and expertise in workplace, mixed-use, retail, urban design and multifamily projects. He has led all aspects of design, workplace strategy and business development for the interiors groups he has managed. Prior to Ware Malcomb, he held multiple leadership roles at international design firms.

Schwamel is committed to serving his community and the architecture and interior design profession. An active, elected leader within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) organization, he currently serves on the AIA National Strategic Council, representing more than 4,000 members in the State of Illinois. Previous roles have included serving on AIA’s Equity, Diversity and Future of Architecture committee, as well as the Regional Realignment and Affordable Housing task forces. A sought-after speaker and panelist, he has won numerous awards and has been recognized by Building Design + Construction Magazine. Schwamel earned a Bachelor of Professional Arts from Cleveland State University, as well as a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters of Architecture in Urban Design from Kent State University.
