Ware Malcomb names regional director in firm’s Chicago office

Ware Malcomb, an international design firm, promoted Mark Schwamel to Regional Director in the firm’s Downtown Chicago office.

In this role, Schwamel will continue to guide the strategic growth of the office and region and provide mentorship to the team.

Schwamel is a mixed-use, multifamily, and commercial expert, leader, planner, and director with more than 20 years of experience driving clients and teams to discover optimal strategic solutions, cutting-edge design, and transformational experiences. A licensed and self-certified architect in Chicago, he joined Ware Malcomb in 2022 as a Director, Interior Architecture & Design.

Schwamel is dedicated to the real estate community and architecture profession, serving in several leadership positions both locally and nationally. He serves on the Chicago CoreNet Board as Co-Chair of the Membership Committee and is currently serving as President of the Architecture Foundation of Illinois (AFI).

He previously served in 2017 as President of the AIA Illinois State Board and on the National AIA Strategic Council (Class of 2022), with a focus on the Equity and the Future of Architecture (EQFA), Regional Realignment (Resolution 18-7), and Affordable Housing task forces. He was honored with the AIA’s highest award in 2022, when he was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows. A sought-after speaker and panelist, he has won numerous awards and has been recognized by Building Design + Construction magazine.

Schwamel earned a Bachelor of Professional Arts from Cleveland State University, as well as a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Kent State University.
