Joseph J. Duffy Company and The Children’s Place Association announce that construction has begun on West Humboldt Place. The new, three-story building is being built in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago, at the corner of West Chicago and North Drake Avenues.
Once finished, the building, known as West Humboldt Place, will provide studio, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Each unit has its own kitchen. According to representatives of The Children’s Place Association, the new housing development will serve low-income families with disabilities.
The first floor will offer supportive services, as well as a multiple-use community center for tenants as well as other low-income children and caregivers from the larger community. The building will consist of a brick face veneer; light gauge framing, wood trusses and Silbonit fiber cement cladding.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, Congressman Danny Davis (7th District), and Chicago Alderman Walter Burnett Jr. (27th Ward)attended the July 18 groundbreaking. Joseph J. Duffy Company serves as the general contractor; Landon Bone Baker Architects are providing the design, and construction documents for the project.
