Joseph Diekfuss has joined R.A. Smith National – a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm – in Brookfield, Wis., as a structural engineer.
Diekfuss brings four years of experience as a research assistant at Marquette University. While at Marquette, he conducted research that led to the development of a reliability-based fatigue assessment procedure for prescribing inspection intervals for Wisconsin’s inventory of sign support structures.
Prior to earning his graduate degrees, Diekfuss was first a co-op and then a project engineer for R.A. Smith National. During that time, he helped design/draft bridge plans for several WisDOT deck overlay and replacement projects, provided on-site inspection services for the construction of a prestressed concrete girder bridge in New Berlin, Wis., and coordinated infrastructure reconstruction/rehabilitation projects for several other communities in southeastern Wisconsin, including Greendale, Muskego, New Berlin and West Milwaukee.
