Yet more evidence of the importance of economic development corporations, especially in an economy that remains challenging, can be found in Wisconsin. That’s where with the help of the Rock County Wisconsin Development Alliance a major health provider will soon offer a new facility for its cancer patients.
Beloit Health System in Beloit, Wis., recently announced its plans to build an 18,000-square-foot cancer center in its home city.
The $11.6 million investment will consolidate two separate but related cancer-treatment facilities.
The center will feature a state-of-the-art linear accelerator that will allow more accurate radiation treatment for cancer patients.
Construction on the center will begin in March, and the center is scheduled to open in December. Plunkett Raysich Architects designed the new center, but the construction company charged with building it has not yet been chosen.
“the health care industry remains a strong economic engine for the Janesville-Beloit MSA,” said James Otterstein, Rock County economic development manager, in a written statement.
