Woodward, Inc. celebrated the completion of its Rock Cut Campus, designed by leading architecture / engineering firm Ghafari Associates, with a ribbon cutting ceremony inLoves Park, Illinois on July 1.
Ghafari served as the master planner, architect and engineer of record for the $110 million project, a 70-acre manufacturing and office campus that will house Woodward’sAircraft Turbine Systems group.
Woodward is the world’s oldest and largest independent designer, manufacturer and service provider of control systems and their components for aircraft engines, industrial engines and turbines, power generation and mobile industrial equipment.
The planning for the 70-acre property was intended to present a public image that is consistent with the company’s sophisticated technological processes and establishes a new architectural aesthetic for future Woodward facilities.
The facility was designed to foster a collaborative workplace environment and optimize employee creativity, productivity and intellectual engagement. Through this and other new facilities, Woodward aims to attract the best and brightest talent, create new jobs in the community and enable operational growth.
Ghafari was selected to design the campus master plan in 2012. Ringland Johnson Construction served as general contractor. Other project participants include: civil engineering firm ARC Design; landscape architect Thomas Graceffa and Associates; Gensler for interiors and signage; Schuler Shook for lighting design; MVP Services Group for food services; and acoustical consultant Shen Milsom & Wilke.
Ghafari has collaborated with Woodward on other corporate facility projects, including the design of its Lincoln Campus headquarters building as well as industrial, research and testing facilities in Fort Collins, Colorado, which are currently under construction. Ghafari also provided full architecture and engineering services for a consolidated manufacturing and office facility for Woodward’s Airframe Systems manufacturing group in Niles, Illinois.
