Jake Lamb is an investment sales associate in the Chicago office of Northmarq, and has worked in commercial real estate since graduating from the University of Missouri. His goal? To serve as a trusted advisor to his clients as they navigate the uncertainty of today’s commercial real estate market.
Tell us about your background. Where did you grow up, where did you go to school?
Jake Lamb: I grew up in the Kansas City area and attended the University of Missouri. I moved to Chicago after school and have lived here for about three years now.
How did you get your start in the industry?
Lamb: Prior to Northmarq, I worked for a multifamily and industrial developer based in Kansas City. While I enjoyed the development side, I saw my future on the brokerage side and jumped at an opportunity at Northmarq presented to me by Dom Martinez, a close family friend and now colleague.
Did you have a mentor who helped you get on your feet, or is there someone you turn to now for support?
Lamb: My colleague and mentor, Alex Malzone, has been instrumental in my development as an Investment Sales producer. I lean on him daily for advice and will continue to do so in the future.
What does an average day in at work look like?
Lamb: Our days are filled with calls and meetings with our clients as we constantly want to be in touch with them on what we’re experiencing in the market. Our team brings a regional approach to the Midwest as we’re active in six different states and are hyper focused on secondary and tertiary markets. Given the volatility in the capital markets and overall outlook on the market, it is more important now than ever to be an advisor for our clients. Lastly, it’s been great to work with our debt/equity teams across the country to be able to offer our clients everything they need.
What do you like most about your job?
Lamb: I love being able to help groups daily with one of their top priorities and something at the forefront of their business – buying and selling real estate.
Looking to the future, what do you hope to achieve/work on that you have not already?
Lamb: By this time next year, I hope to be generating a more significant amount of business and become a larger contributor to our team’s success throughout the Midwest region.
How do you spend your time away from the office?
Lamb: Away from the office, I spend most of my time hanging out with friends and family. I also love to travel and golf when the weather is nice.
