The Chicago Plan Commission has unanimously approved a $1.5 billion residential and retail development at the old Main Post Office in the West Loop.
Phase one of the project includes a 1,000-foot tower, 2,155 rental units, 300,000 square feet of retail space, 500,000 square feet of office space, and a 321-room hotel, among other features. Phase two of the project includes the construction of a 170-story structure slated for mostly residential use.
Construction could potentially begin as soon as September if the project’s developer, British billionaire Bill Davies, finds additional investors.
The site is located along South Canal Street between Harrison Street and West Congress Parkway and the Eisenhower Expressway between West Congress Parkway and South Clinton Street.
