Hearthstone Communities has engaged Ryan Companies US Inc. to complete an extensive renovation of various components of The Manor at Hearthstone Communities, a senior living facility in Woodstock. Construction at the continuing care retirement community has begun and is expected to be completed later this spring.
The Manor at Hearthstone Communities is a 138-bed, two-story senior housing community located at 920 N. Seminary Ave. that offers assisted living, memory and skilled care and short-term stay rehabilitation options. Overall, Hearthstone Communities serves more than 200 adults in a campus setting.
Hearthstone was founded more than 125 years ago as an orphanage. The senior component to the campus was added in the early 1900s. Today the senior living facilities are located in The Manor, the Village at Hearthstone Communities as well as cottages and duplexes throughout the campus. Additionally, as part of its overall campus, Hearthstone features a childcare facility that cares for more than 100 infants and children ranging from six months to 12 years of age. The organization is affiliated with the Free Methodist Church USA.
The Hearthstone modernization project being completed by Ryan is focused to the rehabilitation and skilled nursing sections of The Manor. Work will be completed in a variety of different departments and areas within the facility, including nursing stations, patient rooms, therapy rooms, dining and family rooms and common corridors.
The scope of the modernization program includes: bringing the facility into compliance standards with new building codes and regulations for fire safety and sprinkler protection and installing new interior finishes and improvements for floors, ceilings, wall coverings, electric and lighting.
“This is a very important project for Hearthstone Communities and its residents,” Terry Egan, president/CEO, Hearthstone Communities, said. “We’re excited to be modernizing and refreshing elements of our facility, and to be giving our residents a new look and feel to their home.”
Leading the Ryan design-build team is Nick Kaminski, senior project manager, Ryan Companies. Additional members of the Ryan team include Hans Muecke, division manager, Les Fialco, senior superintendent, and Lisa Sefranek, senior project assistant.
According to Kaminski, the greatest challenge in a project like that being done at Hearthstone is conducting construction activity in a fully functioning, fully occupied facility.
“Sequencing and scheduling is extremely critical so there is as little disruption as possible,” Kaminski said. “This is where people are living their daily lives, and we work very hard to be respectful of that while also adhering to a strict schedule for completing our work.”
