The U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration has awarded the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership a $500,000 grant to develop a master plan for an expanded innovation hub in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

The grant will allow researchers in the St. Louis area to expand their work in plant science. The St. Louis area is known for the work of its scientists and researchers in this field.

The St. Louis Economic Development Partnership was among the recipients of the Regional Innovation Strategies Program Science and Research Park Development Grants.

A total of 70 regions were competing for the $500,000 grant. St. Louis was one of 12 to win grants. The grant provides funding for the planning of new or expanded science or research parks or the renovation of existing facilities.

Thanks to the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Monsanto and Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis ranks as a hub of plant science research. The area boasts more than 750 plant science PhDs, more than any other region in the world.
