These Chicago CRE firms are making moves

Chicago Commercial real estate firms kept busy this past week in office. In an exciting turn of events for some firms, it wasn’t just representing clients in office deals. Rather, it was them completing their own office relocations or announcing they soon will be.

Cushman & Wakefield will be merging its corporate headquarters and Chicago operations at 225 West Wacker in the West Loop submarket. The firm will occupy 83,033 square feet of space in the building’s top four floors by second quarter 2017.

The McShane Companies recently relocated its corporate headquarters to the O’Hare Gateway office complex in Rosemont. The firm, along with its affiliates Conor Commercial Real Estate and McShane Construction Company, now occupy the entire second floor of the Class A office building.

Mortenson Construction relocated its Illinois headquarters Oct. 3 to larger office space at 300 Park Blvd., in Itasca. The firm outgrew it’s former Elk Grove Village office but still opted to remain in the suburbs.

The firm built the space with hoteling workstations that can be used by project engineers, superintendents and other field employees who come into the office for training, meetings and other work. Individual workstations are now smaller due to employees no longer needing large tables to unroll paper drawings; instead they build and access electronic 3D models, renderings, integrated work plans and other project information on laptops, tablets and smartphones. The office also has more collaboration space, including breakout rooms, training rooms and conference rooms.
