ReRun, a tool Gensler Chicago developed in-house to analyze the impact of social distancing on the open office, was honored this week with a Chicago Innovation Award.

The technology, which first launched in April, is an algorithm developed to enable the rapid visualization of social distancing scenarios on an existing workplace floorplan. The prestigious award program’s recognition of ReRun marks just the second time in its 19-year history that it has honored a design firm for an innovative product, project or service.

“It’s truly an honor to be included among such incredible people and ideas that underscore the culture of innovation in our city,” said Mitchell Bobman, analyst at Gensler Chicago and product manager for ReRun. “We wouldn’t be here without our amazing clients who are open to thinking differently and solving problems in new ways right along with us.”

Since its launch as the first solution of its kind in the market, Gensler designers have used ReRun on more than 10 million square feet of office space, empowering companies to apply expert-recommended guidelines and understand their physical implications on global workplace portfolios in a matter of days.

ReRun pairs the strengths of Gensler’s automation expertise with the scale of its network of world-class designers as the largest architecture and design firm in the world, instantly scaling its reach through thousands of client relationships across all industries.

“ReRun was developed, seemingly overnight, by next-gen talent in a nimble response to an emerging set of market demands,” said Wes LeBlanc, analytics director at Gensler Chicago and principal in charge of the project. “This level of flexibility and innovative spirit remain central to the evolution of the tools Gensler creates and utilizes as its designers support client needs across a broad variety of space types—dynamically shaping the future of the built environment for years to come.”
