Continuing its efforts to expand operations in Illinois, Amazon announced Monday that it plans to open a new 850,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Monee– its fifth facility in Illinois. The new center could even open doors to thousands of new employees.
Will County Executive, Lawrence Walsh, said the county feels very fortunate that Amazon has decided to build another fulfillment center in Will County, bringing the total facilities there to four. The latest project is being developed by RELP Bailly, LLC, an affiliate of USAA Real Estate.
“It’s very exciting to think that Amazon could soon be employing thousands and thousands of full-time employees in the area,” he said.
The news comes shortly after Amazon previously announced that it plans to bring two new facilities to Edwardsville as well as a significant increase to its footprint in Joliet.
“It’s clear that Illinois is a growing center for businesses like Amazon that need a strong transportation hub and logistics,” said Intersect Illinois CEO Jim Schultz. “We are excited to earn another investment by Amazon and will continue to work closely with them to expand their presence here.”
Illinois is one of the strongest locations for logistics in America. It has the third largest interstate system in the country, all of the country’s Class-1 freight railroads move through Illinois and has five international airports that can get you anywhere in North America within four hours.
“Our location and infrastructure are world-class assets, and we will continue to harness them to attract more 21st century companies like Amazon to Illinois,” Schultz said.
