ARCO/Murray recently completed a container and wheeled storage yard project for Central States Trucking, located at 1250 Millsdale Road in Joliet. Central States Trucking is among the largest Midwest-based carriers, operating for more than 30 years.
The new terminal and depot operations complex featured 12 acres of roller compacted concrete (RCC). RCC offered many advantages over conventional poured-in-place concrete or asphalt sections. The RCC solution offered price advantage over traditional poured-in-place methods, requires less maintenance costs and allows flexibility for trailer storage since there is no need for dolly strips when compared to an asphalt section.
“RCC can bear comparable loads to conventional concrete, but is more cost competitive than conventional concrete and heavy-duty asphalt pavement,” said Christian Evangelista, senior project manager at ARCO/Murray and project executive for the project.
