ARCO/Murray National Construction Company Inc. recently completed a design/build project for specialty food company Nielsen-Massey Vanillas at its 20-year-old headquarters at 1550 Shields Drive in Waukegan. The 29,500-square-foot expansion doubled the family-owned company’s manufacturing and office space to total 62,300 square feet.
Over nine months, ARCO/Murray renovated and added 4,800 square feet of office space, including: a state-of-the-art 1,100-square-foot test kitchen for demonstrations, classes, research and filming; a high-end conference room; and custom cabinetry and floating cloud ceilings.
ARCO/Murray also added 24,000 square feet of food-grade manufacturing and warehouse space, including: a high-hazard manufacturing room and a quality-control laboratory to ensure product safety.
As part of the expansion, Nielsen-Massey increased its warehouse storage capacity by approximately 200 percent. ARCO/Murray overcame the challenge of connecting the new addition to the existing lower-height facility in order to maximize space and rack positions.
