Chicago’s Timber Hill Group adds CFO, managing director of acquisitions

Sofia Michis and Dave Tombers have joined Timber Hill Group, a Chicago-based private equity real estate firm specializing in the acquisition, development, and management of industrial outdoor storage (IOS) assets throughout the U.S., as Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director of Acquisitions respectively. Both will also serve on the firm’s executive leadership team.

Michis was most recently the Chief Financial Officer at New Jersey-based Sitex Group where she supported the firm as it expanded its platform and footprint across the Northeast industrial corridor. In her role, she oversaw all accounting, financial controls and investor reporting for Sitex’s portfolio of real estate investments. Michis also served on the firm’s executive team, providing detailed oversight of all company financial and accounting information, tax reporting and investor correspondence.

Prior to joining Sitex, Michis was an Accountant with McShane Development Company and a Senior Accountant at ML Realty Partners where she reported to the Vice President/Controller in support of an $800 million industrial real estate portfolio with 87 active subsidiaries. 

Michis is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago.

Tombers will lead Timber Hills’ acquisition activities across the U.S. He was most recently the Head of Acquisitions at Los Angeles-based Iconic Equities and prior to that he was the Managing Director — Western U.S. at CrowdStreet. During his decade plus career he has completed transactions valued at more than $1 billion. 

Tombers earned a BS from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also holds FINRA securities professional licenses SIE, 63, and 79.
